NEWZ TUBE, India - A flash flood struck Dharali Village on the Khir Ganga River in Uttarakhand, India, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. District authority Prashant Arya reported that four people died in the disaster.
Local authorities are currently providing assistance to the victims and are continuing efforts to rescue those who may still be trapped in the ruins of their homes. The Khir Ganga River lies hidden deep in the Parvati Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. It not only offers extraordinary natural beauty but also holds a deep legend.
The Khir Ganga River is considered a perfect place where nature, spirituality, and adventure blend. It's no wonder that the Khir Ganga River is a popular destination for tourists, especially trekkers.
The name Khir Ganga is said to originate from an ancient legend and literally means "River of Milk." According to local belief, the god Shiva and his consort, the goddess Parvati, once resided in this beautiful area.
It is said that Goddess Parvati was once cooking when her milk and dishes overflowed and flowed into the river. This is why the river's flow resembles cloudy milk. Meanwhile, another legend states that Shiva's son, Kartikeya, meditated for thousands of years. To appease his son, Shiva answered his prayer by creating the hot springs of the Khir Ganga River.
Pilgrims who come to the Khir Ganga believe the hot springs in this river contain healing minerals. They also consider the water sacred, purifying the body and soul from sins. The Khir Ganga is not just a legend; the river's appeal lies in its unparalleled natural beauty. To reach the river, one usually begins from the village of Kasol, following a challenging yet visually pleasing hiking trail.
Along the way, hikers are treated to views of lush pine and apple trees. There is also a suspension bridge over the river and a hidden waterfall. When climbers reach the summit, they are greeted by vast meadows and a breathtaking view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
The Khir Ganga River offers more than just a physical adventure; it also offers a spiritual journey. It is proof that nature and faith can coexist peacefully.
